Mother Sarah Lee Newton Co-Founder

Kansas City, Missouri by her mother and stepfather, Zora and William Scott.
God's providence was evident in her life from birth. Her lifelong dream to meet her biological father, Edward Young, finally came true in
1997 when she had the chance to talk to her father for the first time by telephone and a few weeks later met him face to face. For the
next 7 years a loving, father/daughter relationship was developed.
Mother Newton was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri School District where she attended Attucks Elementary School, R.T. Coles
Jr. High and graduated from Lincoln High School. She wanted to become a Home Economics teacher so she enrolled and attended the
Kansas City Junior College, now Penn Valley Community College, for 2 years. However, another providential move of God caused her
education to be put on hold when she met and married Evangelist Emanuel newton Sr. In 1959.
Six years into marriage, God called Elder Newton into the Pastoral Ministry and Christian Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C. Was founded in
October of 1965. Along with Mother Alizue Newton, Elder Newton's 5 year Newton had taken a clerical job for the Kansas City, Missouri
Water Department. Elder Newton encouraged her to "stick with me," and "someday soon you'll be able to leave that job and stay home
and take care of the children". Mother Newton was not to fond of the idea of being a Pastor's wife, but she made a vow to God to do all
she could to help build and support her husband's ministry and for 41 years she was the First Lady of Christian Tabernacle. Eight of
those years she served as First Lady of the Missouri Western First Jurisdiction.
As the little church begin to grow, both naturally and spiritually, Mother Newton did whatever her hands found to do. She taught
Sunday School classes from Primary to Junior High. She was the Sunshine melodious voice, which she says was inherited from her
Mother and Father, could be heard in the Deliverance Choir until the mid 1990's. Mother Newton didn't even mind driving the church
van to pick up people for service or opening her home kitchen where she and other women from the church would up people for
service or opening her home kitchen where she and other women from the church would stay up all hours of the night cooking and
delivering fish or chicken dinners to postal workers at Kansas City's Main Post Office. She really meant to and did keep the vow made
to God that she would help Pastor Newton build the Christian Tabernacle Ministry. She could be found accompanying Bishop Newton
on his many trips to conferences and engagements, fasting and praying for him that God would continually strengthen, keep and
protect him as he went about leading the people that God had placed in his care.
At age 41, Mother Newton was blessed to continue her education. She had over the years come to have a passion for educating the
very young children. She earned a Teaching Certificate from the National Center for Montessori Education from St. Mary's College of
Leavenworth, Kansas and instead of Home Economics, she began her teaching career at Notre Dame de Sion Elementary School in
Kansas City. During her 9 years at Notre Dame, God gave her a plan for the preschool children in the church and surrounding
community. She wanted to plant positive seed in the fertile minds of the young children and prayed that they would carry these
teaching into their adult lives. Bishop Newton and the C.T. Trustees allowed Mother to use a wing of the church and C.T. Academy was
opened. Without any formal advertisement, the academy went from an enrollment of 3 to 50 children. There was a long waiting list and
a larger facility was really necessary to accommodate the increasing enrollment.
God led Mother Newton to a piece of property with 2 buildings on 5 acres of land. By the Grace of God this property was purchased,
remodeled and for the next 10 years was a very successful business. Job opportunities were opened to members of the church. The
enrollment went up to 120 students and a staff of 15.
When Bishop Newton was appointed as Jurisdictional prelate, it became a little hard for Mother Newton to keep up with the pace as the
Academy director while fulfilling her duties as Pastor's wife and now Bishop's wife, so regretfully she resigned her job at the Academy.
C.T. Academy will forever hold dear to her heart.
Mother's true test of faith came when her husband was called home to be with the Lord. What did God have in his plan for her now?
She realizes that "the trial in your faith is much more precious than gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto
praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ" 1 Peter 1:7. She did not charge God foolishly. She accepted what God
allowed. She yet plays an active part in the church, serving as Administrative Assistant and finance Clerk. She is an encourager to the
women of God in the church and community. She is a member of the Mother's Board and serves wherever she can; she also serves as
the President of the Clergy Wives on the Jurisdictional Level. Most importantly, Mother Newton is a strong, Faith-filled, praying and
fasting woman of God and she has no doubt that God is right by her side. Her Favorite scripture "Seek ye first the kingdom of God,
and all his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you'. Matthew 6:33.
Mother Newton was the devoted wife of Bishop Emanuel Newton for 3 months short of 47 years and is the proud and devoted mother of
a blended family which consists of 4 daughters and 2 sons, 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Elder Keith Newton carries on
his Father's Legacy as he pastors Christian Tabernacle and is taking it to a new level; Emanuel Jr, is a minister at Greater Harvest
C.O.G.I.C. in Dallas, Texas; Cheryl is an anointed Evangelist Missionary; Dojuan is and associate Minister at Kansas City's Harvest
Church; grandsons, Garnett and Christopher are also ministers and the rest serve in the Lord in various ways of ministry as well.
